A page of local (Stretford) news, hopefully with some photo's whenever possible.I've started to do this, as several local BIG events failed to get ANY media coverage. An example...Talking to a local vendor, up on the Gorse Hill, a young scroat was shot in the leg by the Police. He was running away from them after dumping a car and trying to get away. No media coverage. There's stuff collated here that never hit the papers (as far as I know, but I don't buy rags, anymore). What else is going on that they're not telling us? Ooooh! Another conspiracy site? - Nope. Just information that gets to me. I will do my very best to ensure that this page remains as factual as possible, but I neither have the time nor inclination to chase any of it! Make your own mind up. There's also going to be loads of the mundane stuff (well, I'll try)!
Latest at the top, here.
Shots fired at house, 20/6/2010A shotgun was used on the door and upstairs window of a 67yr old pensioner in Highfield Close, at about a quarter to twelve, Sunday night. The police are making enquiries in the area. No-one was hurt, but it must have been a nasty moment. Anybody has any info on this, please help to put these tw*ts away! Call the Major Incident Team on 01618562480, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800555111. Will they ever learn...?Stretford car accident 06/09/09, just before 1620. Several cars (I think three) had a meeting on the A56 Chester Road, just outside the Bass Drum. What a whallop! Couldn't count the number of suits on their mobiles... You can laugh, as seemingly, no-one was hurt (but I bet someone will have an almighty headache to-morrow ;-) Kudos to the Police, fairly swiftly on scene (it was rush hour), ambo as a precaution. I thought that the estate would be cordoned off (again!), but that didn't happen. Very soon after that, traffic was clearing. 1/9/09 A door was kicked in by the T.A.U. lads, and a Highfield
Road resident was dragged off, kicking and screaming. Very shortly after that, a few cars pulled up on the hill of Hancock Street, and several Bobbies ran off up Hawthorn Lane towards Turn Moss. Ah well, nice to see them getting some exercise! All go, innit? Robin Hood shooting.Urmston road was closed, Sunday (10th) night. A 16yr old was shot. Link to Messenger So that's The Moulin Rouge (recently The Green Windmill) closed. The Old Cock. Now the Robin will no doubt have a real hard time of it. I wonder how long it'll take before they're all shut. Watch out Patio! The Meadows Residents Meeting.Date: 24th February Place: Vine Court Stretford residents meeting of some sort (because the first I knew of it was my buddy knocking on my door telling me!). No post. The notices were on four lampposts around the estate. Not many people attended (not 20). Funny, that, innit? The meeting was for some consultants to tell us what may happen on this estate. But it probably won't because of money being tight. (Don't hold your breath, Craig. That tree will just have to fall on you in the next strong wind!) I wonder how much these consultants cost us taxpayers? Apprehended Bank Robbers.Date: 25th (ish) Feb 2009 Place: Lacy Street -ish. Earlier in the week, over Highfield Road, Police 151 (the heli) was busy overhead. It seems as though four armed blaggers had just robbed a bank in Chorlton, and were apprehended here, in Lacy Street. Well done to the Police for nailing the gits (within about a half hour!), but why isn't it in the papers? TV? ... Politics? 'course, it beggers belief that the bank actually had any money to steal! The Meadows Residents Meeting.Date: 19th January 2009. Local Community Forum Place: St.Matthew's Church. I made it, although it took a really quick shower after work to do so. Subjects I managed to nail someone on...Council TaxUnlucky for the fella on the Council Tax table... If I said "sorry", I wouldn't mean it.
(As an aside, if you want to try to do something about this, then try these www.taxpayersalliance.com) Police.
Planning
So all in all, I probably was thought of as a troublemaker (good!), but more to the point, I felt that nothing would be done to address my views, which I believe are the views of the majority of folks I know round here. The Council will continue to waste my (our) money and ignore us. I'm not one for condoning direct action of any sort, but painting the 'porch' white might be fun... *Received a reply. The chevrons to the junction to go over the road from Green Street to Trafford Park, are because some blind fools were having accidents by exiting the junction without checking that the way was clear (their view of oncoming traffic being obscured by the car to the left of them)! So the theory runs that if there is only one lane, then the view isn't obstructed The chevrons before the puffin crossing is because traffic was backing up to go up Edge Lane, onto the main carriageway of Chester Road. These chevrons are to help oncoming traffic to avoid the stationary cars! Nah. Pooh idea, and a stoopid conception! Three cars collide.Date: 18th December 2008. About 1700 Place: On the pavement at the bottom of Stretford flats! Three (not one, not two, but three) cars having fun, obviously being shoved onto the pavement after they couldn't get enough of each other. Looked quite serious, too, the dings a bit more than that. No blue lights, so hopefully everyone got away with it. At least one was a suit. I couldn't get back to them in time to get a photo. Personal observation:- The more room you leave to the car in front, generally, the better the traffic flow. Cars can change lanes easier. The more room you have to stop (it's easier!) Jeez. It's not rocket science! Car Thief Apprehended.Date: 30th October 2008: PM Place: Highfield Road, Stretford Police were seen to search the gardens of two houses in Stretford. It seems that a lad had stolen a car, dumped it in Brunswick Street, and tried to escape through those gardens. The uniforms tried the doors to a garage, to no avail. He'd gotten away. No boot marks in said gardens, so reports of big booted bobbies seem to be exaggerated ;-) but a donkey must have been in my garden! No further information available. Armed Police Raid.Date: September 2008 Place: Highfield Road, Stretford. Armed Police took an interest in the house three doors down from me, a couple of months ago. The Police Armed Response Unit were flashing their Heckles and Cox weapons at that house. Armed CID, vans, cars, dogs, helicopters, the lot. Arms cache, apparently. Lots of Police. Lots of effort. High profile. Nothing in the news. Anywhere. My 75 year old neighbour (a bit of Alzheimer's in there, too) came out after the op. with a letter in her hand, walking away from the scene, toward the post-box round the corner. A snotty WPC got right in her face (I was there) and demanded to know, loudly and aggressively "and where do you think you're going?". My answer would have been different, but my neighbour is easily upset these days. What are they teaching in the police training stalags, these days? Sometimes, it's just one of those days...Date: 14th September 2007 Place: Stretford, Kellogg's bridge (just past the chippy going to T.P.) A transporter tried to get under the bridge. Failed. Here's some photos. Nearly landed on the bonnet of my buddies' car! Now that would make for an impressive bonnet badge!
